We carried out emergency cut edge corrosion work for a global manufacturer of aerospace motion control technologies in Gateshead
A D&D Coatings team of four completed this cut edge treatment project ahead of schedule. It was an urgent project for the UK operations for an aerospace engineering company at Team Valley Trading Est in Gateshead.
A fast turnaround was important. Previous treatment had started to fail. Rainwater was now leaking into the building and onto expensive machinery and products. Building management made repairing the leaks a top priority.
The leaking roof problem
The landlord and owner of the premises requested our services. This was after a complaint from their tenant. Fortunately we were in a position to carry out the urgent work almost immediately. Our large team of technicians gives us the ability to respond to emergencies at short notice in most cases. Our teams work on-site full time from start to finish on almost all projects.

Cut edge treatment work begins
A site survey was carried out and our contract was signed and approved. Work could now start. For speed a pre-start meeting was conducted via conference call. In the conference call we were joined by, firstly, both health & safety officers, our scaffolding coordinator, the building management and finally our team supervisors.
Scaffolding, health & safety, coatings and equipment
Our scaffolding partners arrived on site first. Next to arrive was our health and safety officer assessed working conditions along with our clients health and safety representative. Followed by, coating systems and equipment delivery. Everything was now ready for our teams to start work. Our cut edge treatment process begins with cleaning. A fast turnaround
This project was time sensitive. We limited cleaning to within 20cm of the sheet cut edges. This saved a lot of time. Power washing an entire roof space is a lengthy job. We treated the ridge caps first. Followed by the skylight overlaps, mid-sheet overlaps and sheet ends overhanging the guttering.
Job turnaround time was fast. It rained heavily the day after we left. There were no leaks and everything was safe and dry. No leaks meant a very happy client and happy tenants. This was another first class job completed by D&D Coatings – another happy customer to add to our long list! 😊
