AkzoNobel is powering a greener future in China, with more than half of its production sites moving rapidly toward 100% renewable electricity. This progress marks a significant step in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and strengthening China’s energy independence.
A major initiative is already driving change, with eight of the company’s 15 Chinese facilities harnessing a mix of self-generated and externally sourced renewable electricity. The transition to clean energy is gathering pace, helping to replace fossil fuels with zero-carbon alternatives.
On-track for 100% renewable’s
Suzhou and Changzhou are set to achieve 100% renewable electricity this year, while Shanghai and Wuhan are on track to reach 90% by 2026. Meanwhile, Langfang has already hit 100%, and Guangzhou’s renewable electricity usage (currently at 20%) is expected to double soon. AkzoNobel’s Decorative Paints plant in Chengdu is also making strides, with 18% of its electricity now coming from renewables.
This accelerating shift to clean energy highlights both AkzoNobel’s commitment to sustainability and China’s ongoing progress toward energy self-sufficiency.
